On the Highline, New York
November 2024. I am giving four lectures at the Collège de France under the title "Thoughts and Things". They will cover pretty much everything I think about mental representation. Here is the poster for the lecture series (illustrated by a painting by Katy Papineau)
December 2021. I am about to start a semester of leave from King's in which I hope to get my book on causation finished. It's all pretty clear in my head--I just need to write it down.
October 2021. I'm teaching Philosophy of Biology at King's this semester. Everything back to normal--so far--with all teaching face to face. In the new year I have a semester's sabbatical from King's and am aiming to complete a draft of a book on 'The Causal Structure of Reality'. Here's a long preliminary paper that should end up as the first half of it.
January 2021. The pandemic has curtailed my spring terms in New York, so this semester I am back at King's College London and running our MA in Philosophy of Medicine. Something of a new departure for me, but it turns out I have plenty of interests in the area. On a different subject, my new book The Metaphysics of Sensory Experience will be out with Oxford University Press in March.
April 2020. Still holding weekly meetings for my CUNY course "Intervention, Causation and Decision". Guest speakers have included Stephen Neale, Brad Weslake, Jenn McDonald, Thomas Blanchard, Jonathan Schaffer, Michael Strevens and Barry Loewer. But since mid-March we have been scattered to the four winds, with me in England and others in Hungary, Sweden, Arizona and Wisconsin as well as New York.
January 2020. Due to return to New York at the end of this month. My CUNY course this semester (Thursdays 11.45-1.45) will be on "Intervention, Causation and Decision".
February 2019. Back in New York once more; my CUNY course this semester is Mind, Brain and Consciousness.
November 2017. I'll be back in New York for the spring semester at the beginning of February; the topic of my CUNY course this time will be Mental Representation.
October 2017. The department at King's is generously hosting a two-day conference this month on "The Philosophy of David Papineau" 20-21 October.
